Happy Birthday America!
So, last week I didn't get around to making a post because I was actually too busy at the forge. Had quite a bit of success finishing up one pair of tongs and getting most of the way done with a second pair. These both will help me quite a bit with holding stock more effectively. I have been making due with a pair of cheaper wolf jaw tongs that are a classic “jack of all trades, master of none” tool.
The tongs are made from a set of blanks I got as a gift at Christmas from my parents. They come from Ken’s Custom Iron and are a great deal for a starting smith. The difficult part of making tongs is forging out the basic shape, and these blanks cut out that issue. And for around $50 you get 4-5 pairs of tongs that also help build up your skills. I can't express enough how much I appreciate Ken's business.
I have the week off for the July 4th holiday and i plan to get even more done. Hopefully some more posts will come up as well. Until then, time to sleep for a bit!
