Suddenly! Rain…
So, this weekend was a wet one. The issue with that is my new propane forge didn't have any space in the garage to turn on safely and I was originally using it outdoors. Not really an option when it's raining buckets, so instead I spent a couple hours cleaning an area to safely turn on the forge in the garage. Now weather won't be a good excuse for the rest of the summer.
I wasn't able to get any forging done, but I did take time to practice with a little trick I learned online. Fun fact: non-hardening modeling clay has the same physical reactions as heated steel. It's obviously not quite as hard but moves in the same way and is easier to start over with and repeat. I have begun using it with a small piece of old rail track and my hammer to practice techniques in my freetime inside. I have been told that it's a great way to develop muscle memory before trying something in steel that can't be fixed. Hopefully it works so I can practice when I don't have time to heat metal. It will also save me money!
